Chaine
Every signed step, checked.
Most files have none at all.
Chaine is a registry of signed statements about files — who says they made something, what they say they did to it, and what terms they attach. Drop a file and it will tell you what is on record, and be specific about what that is worth.
Checked
Recomputable from the bytes, by you, in your own browser. It does not require trusting us and it survives with no key, no account and no network.
- These bytes hash to this digest.
- These exact bytes were signed by the holder of this key, and have not changed by one bit — the timestamp and the licence words included.
- This record names that file as the one it came from.
Asserted
Somebody signed a claim. That makes it non-repudiable — they cannot later deny making it — and it does not make it true.
- Who the signer is.
- What act happened — Chaine never sees a shutter fire or a model run.
- When it happened, by the signer's own clock.
- Whether the signer had any right to sign these bytes.
What it will not say
- Never that a picture is real or fake. Chaine runs no detector and never will. Absence of a “made by a model” declaration means nobody said — never that nobody did.
- Never that a named person made something. A key signed a statement. The name beside it is a string somebody typed; there is no certificate authority and no identity check anywhere in this product.
- Never “derivative detected”. Chaine never works out that one file came from another. It only repeats what someone claimed, and anyone can claim anything as a parent.
- Never that terms are enforceable. Chaine cannot stop anyone training a model on a file and cannot tell whether anyone did. What it produces is evidence.
The terms a signer can attach
Chaine’s own words, not a Creative Commons licence and not a court-tested instrument. The exact text sits inside the signature, so editing it afterwards breaks verification rather than swapping quietly.
